Samuel Middlebrook
1784-1846
Samuel Middlebrook was the son of Thomas Middlebrook and Mary Fisher. He was one of seven children. He married Hannah Nicholson at just 19 and had 4 children. He was at first a clothier, then he became a butcher not long before the death of his father Thomas who was also a butcher. After Hannah died in 1815, he married Susannah Sanderson.
By the time he was 40 Samuel had purchased the "Black Bull Inn" in Millbridge LIversedge and remained a publican for the rest of his life.
He was a memboer in the Radical Society- a movement involved in the promotion of universal suffrage. He left the Black Bull to his son John who continued to run it for some time after his fathers death. i
